A Visit to Siming Mountain (Part 4)

The Geological Park at Simingshan is not to be missed. Only 4 years old, it provides visitors with breathtaking views of deep green, undulating mountains, valleys speckled with red roofed villages, an occasional pagoda in the distance and miles of carefully groomed granite walkways. It is a photographer's or painter's dream... everywhere the eye rests calls for another photo... and many views are impossible to capture.

After the heat of Yuyao, the gentle breezes in the Park were also very welcoming. Hammocks nestled in the trees invite visitors to stop for a rest.

Every so often a small round granite table and four stools suggest that this would be moment to stop and have a drink. We were all quite dazzled to say the least. As we had arrived so early, we practically had the place to ourselves.

I should mention that before beginning our hike, we decided to watch a 15 minute video about the history of Simingshan. Entering a lovely theater, we were strapped into some massive chairs and given a pair of 3D glasses. The special effects were great. We were hit by falling boulders, caught in snowstorms (actually felt the snow), raindrops, underwater bubbles, and attacked by a giant snake... I could feel it slither under my seat! I screamed and my legs were in the air! Literally!! We learned how the mountains were formed and life in this part of the world began. It was a great way to start the day!

The bus ride down the mountain was fairly uneventful. Lush green mountains with miles of bamboo swaying in the breeze.

The driver took the hairpin turns at a healthy pace and poor Mimi did puke into a plastic bag about half way down. We were all happy to be heading to the Business Hotel and a shower and a comfortable bed!

Zai Xian!
