Siming Mountain Epilogue

I want to share how delightful our Teaching Assistants have been and how helpful. I know that this is the first time that Lena and Mimi have accompanied a group of Americans on a field trip. They are so conscientious about making sure that we are happy and that all the details are in order.

Lena reminds me of Mrs. Su at a young age. She is tiny and wears huge glasses as a fashion statement!

She is a little mother hen... would be adorable in a sitcom! Her friend Lena is also very sweet. Poor girl knew there was a good chance she would get sick on the hair pin turn bus ride, but went along anyway. (And you already know how that turned out!) We each gave Lena 250 RMB or about $41.00. For that amount, we paid for the bus ride up and down the mountain, the van and driver, accommodations, dinner and breakfast at the Happy Farmhouse and lunch the next day. (I suppose I really shouldn't complain about the bed!)

At dinner, a group of what appeared to be business men were eating together and frequently standing up to toast one another. One of them even came over to have a toast with Dave. At first I assumed they were drinking something potent. It turned out they were only drinking the weak beer or some soda. At lunch the next day, we decided to toast each other, Chinese style!

Sally and I convinced the restaurant owner to sell each of us 6 small glasses, so we can bring the Chinese custom home with us. They really couldn't understand why we wanted to buy their glasses, but as you know I can be persuasive!
